Apply for membership

Membership is open across Pakistan to anyone aged 18 or over who accepts our constitution. The conditions, the fee and what members decide are set out below the form.

Become a Member

Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization is a members’ organisation. Members are not supporters at a distance: under our constitution they are the body in which authority rests, they elect the office bearers, and they hold the organisation to account.

Membership is open to Pakistani citizens anywhere in the country — and to Pakistanis abroad — who meet the conditions set out in our constitution. Registration under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961 is in process.

Why Membership Matters

A donor funds work. A volunteer delivers it. A member owns responsibility for it.

Members attend the general body, question the office bearers, vote on the direction of the organisation and are entitled to see how PHWO is run. At PHWO that is not a ceremonial role. The members who join now will help set the standards, approve the first programmes and decide what kind of institution PHWO becomes.

If you have been frustrated by welfare work that begins loudly and disappears quietly, membership is the position from which you can do something about it.

Eligibility

Our constitution sets the following conditions for membership. An applicant must:

  • be aged 18 years or above;
  • reside within the area of operation of the organisation;
  • be of reputable character and sound mind;
  • agree to abide by the constitution of the organisation; and
  • agree to pay the prescribed membership fee.

Employees of the organisation may not be members. This separation keeps those who are paid by PHWO distinct from those who govern it, and it is a condition we will not waive.

Membership is open without regard to faith, sect, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation. PHWO is non-political and non-sectarian, and members are expected to keep the organisation that way.

What Members Commit To

  • Abiding by the constitution and by the decisions of the general body.
  • Paying the prescribed membership fee as it falls due.
  • Keeping PHWO out of politics and free of sectarian preference in every decision and every distribution.
  • Declaring any personal or financial interest in a matter and taking no part in that decision.
  • Supporting the work of the organisation in whatever way their time and profession allow.

What Members Are Entitled To

  • A copy of the constitution.
  • Notice of and participation in general body meetings.
  • The right to vote, and to stand for office as provided in the constitution.
  • Access to information on how the organisation is run, including its accounts and its programme results.
  • The right to raise concerns and to receive an answer.

The Membership Fee

The membership fee is prescribed under the constitution and is kept deliberately modest so that membership is not restricted to those who can afford to give generously. Fees are recorded in our books of accounts as a separate head of income and used solely for the aims and objectives of the organisation. Current fee details are available on request.

How to Apply

Applications are made to the registered office and considered under the procedure set out in the constitution.

  • Step 1. Contact us and confirm that you meet the eligibility conditions above.
  • Step 2. Complete the membership application form and provide proof of identity, such as the CNIC issued by NADRA, whose website explains how to obtain or renew one.
  • Step 3. Read and sign your agreement to abide by the constitution. Ask us for a copy first if you have not seen it.
  • Step 4. Pay the prescribed fee. Your payment is recorded and a receipt is issued.
  • Step 5. Your application is considered, and once approved your name is entered in the register of members.

Not Eligible for Membership?

If you do not meet the conditions above, there are other ways in. You can volunteer, including remotely, partner with us as an institution or company, or support a programme as a donor. None of these require membership.
