Work Out Your Zakat
This calculator adds up the assets Zakat is normally due on, subtracts what you owe, compares the result against nisab, and shows you 2.5 per cent of the balance if you are above it. Everything stays in your browser. We do not receive, store or see the figures you enter, and you are not asked for your name or email to use it.
What counts, in short
- Cash in hand, in current and savings accounts, and in mobile wallets.
- Gold and silver — jewellery included, valued at what it would fetch today rather than what it cost.
- Business assets — stock held for sale, and money customers owe you that you expect to be paid.
- Investments held for growth or resale, and money lent to others that you expect back.
- Debts you owe are subtracted, which for most people means immediate liabilities rather than the entire remaining term of a long loan.
Your home, the car you drive, household goods, tools of your trade and personal clothing are not Zakatable.
Nisab and the lunar year
Zakat falls due once your net Zakatable wealth has stayed at or above nisab for a full lunar year. Nisab is set by the value of gold or silver, so it moves with the market — the silver threshold is lower, which means using it brings more people into Zakat. Both are offered here; pick the one you follow. Because nisab is tied to metal prices, the same wealth can be above the threshold one year and below it the next.
Pakistan’s statutory deduction
Pakistan operates a compulsory Zakat deduction on certain bank accounts on the first of Ramadan, with a declaration process for those who prefer to pay directly instead. Whether that deduction settles your full obligation depends on your circumstances and on which assets it touched. Our guide to Zakat in Pakistan covers this in more detail.
A calculator is not a religious ruling
This tool follows the mainstream position and is offered in good faith as arithmetic, not as a fatwa. Scholars differ on the treatment of jewellery in regular use, pension funds, shares, agricultural produce and long-term debt. If your situation is not straightforward, ask someone qualified. If you would like to give your Zakat through PHWO, it is kept separate from other funds and applied only to purposes that qualify — see our donation page and our donation policy.
Calculator
Zakat is due on wealth you have held for one lunar year, once that wealth is above the nisab threshold. Enter what you own below. Nothing you type here is sent to us or saved anywhere — the calculation happens on your own device.
Important notes
- This calculator is a guide, not a religious ruling. Scholars differ on several points, including how to treat pensions, shares, and property held for rent. For your own situation, please consult a scholar you trust.
- The home you live in, your everyday clothing, your household furniture and the tools of your trade are not counted.
- Zakat becomes due once a lunar year has passed over wealth that was above the nisab. Choose a date in the Islamic calendar and use the same date each year.
- We use the silver nisab by default, because it is the lower threshold and therefore includes more people in the obligation to give. Some scholars prefer the gold nisab.
- Our guide to Zakat in Pakistan explains nisab, the eight categories of eligible recipients, and the difference between Zakat and Sadaqah in more detail.
- Zakat given to PHWO is recorded separately from general donations and is disbursed only to people eligible to receive Zakat. Our donation policy sets out how that is kept apart, and where your money goes explains what happens to everything else.
