Who We Are
Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) is a voluntary social welfare organization working for communities across Pakistan, with its registered office in Larkana, Sindh. We were established by ten professionals who decided that the welfare work families in Pakistan need should be organised properly: with a written constitution, named office bearers, formal accounts and a plan that can be inspected by anyone who asks.
Registration under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961 with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Karachi, Government of Sindh, is in process.
An Organisation Built on Accountability
PHWO describes itself accurately. Direct assistance to verified individuals is under way, our programmes open in stages, and we publish no figure we cannot evidence. What exists today is substantial in a different way: a constitution adopted by the founding members, a defined area of operation, eight agreed aims, a plan of operation, a governance structure, and a set of financial and transparency rules that apply from the first rupee we receive.
We think that is the right order. Many good intentions in Pakistan collapse because activity begins before accountability does. We have chosen to build the accountability first, launch our programmes in stages, and let our record speak from the moment there is a record to speak of.
Non-Political and Non-Sectarian
PHWO is strictly non-political and non-sectarian. We take no part in political activity, we do not campaign for or against any party or candidate, and we do not align ourselves with any sect, school of thought or ethnic grouping.
Assistance is decided on need alone. A family qualifies for our support because of their circumstances, never because of their faith, sect, language, gender, caste, political sympathies or connections. Our volunteers and members are asked to hold to the same standard in the field, and any breach of it is treated as a serious matter of conduct.
This is not a formality. In a district where welfare has sometimes been used as leverage, neutrality is the most valuable asset an organisation can hold, and the easiest one to lose.
What Drives Our Team
Our founding members are advocates, doctors, engineers, businesspeople and a freelancer. They see the same problems from different angles: the lawyer who is asked for help by families who cannot afford a school fee, the doctor who treats conditions that basic awareness would have prevented, the businessperson who cannot find locally trained staff, the freelancer who knows that a young person in a small town with the right skills can earn from clients anywhere in the world.
Those perspectives shaped our eight aims, and they explain our flagship priority. Digital and freelancing skills sit at the centre of our plan because they solve a Pakistani problem in a local way: they create income without requiring migration, they are open to women who cannot travel for work, and they scale with training rather than with capital.
The clearest version of that pattern comes from our President, Imran Ali, an advocate of the High Court who has spent years representing people in court without charge because they could not otherwise be represented. The same families who could not afford a lawyer could not absorb a medical bill or a school fee either. An organisation that addresses one of those and ignores the others does not change very much, which is why our constitution commits us to eight aims rather than one. Read more about our governance.
The founding members serve voluntarily. None of them joined PHWO to draw a salary from it.
Where We Work
Our aims are national. The needs we have set out to address, in education, health, skills and livelihoods, are not particular to one district, and our constitution provides for extending our programmes to other districts and provinces in stages, with the necessary approvals.
Our registration was filed in Larkana, Sindh, where our registered office is. Our work and services — requests for help, free legal aid, the Rishta Desk, volunteering, membership and partnerships — are open to people anywhere in Pakistan and to Pakistanis abroad, and donations are welcome from anywhere in the world. This is a deliberate sequence rather than a limit on ambition. It is where our members live, where our registered office stands, and where the people who founded this organisation can be found and held to account by their own neighbours. An organisation that claims to operate everywhere before it has delivered anything anywhere is not one we would ask you to trust.
Our public position is therefore simple and honest: working for all of Pakistan, registered in Larkana, and supported by donors worldwide. As we extend into other districts we will say so here, with dates, and we will not describe ourselves as operating in a place before we actually do.
Our Constitution
Everything above is drawn from our constitution, which sets out our name, area of operation, aims and objectives, membership rules, governing structure, financial resources, plan of operation and the requirement to maintain proper books of accounts.
