Donation Policy
This policy explains how Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) accepts, verifies, records and uses donations. It applies to every gift we receive, of any size, from any source.
PHWO is a non-political, non-sectarian voluntary social welfare organization serving families across Pakistan, with its registered office in Larkana, Sindh. Donations are accepted from Pakistan and from anywhere in the world. Registration under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961 is in process.
How You Can Give
Our donation channels are manual. We do not process card payments on this website, and we never ask for card numbers, banking passwords, PINs or one-time codes. You make the payment yourself, through your own bank or wallet, using the details we publish on the donate page.
- Bank transfer / IBAN. Transfer directly to PHWO’s bank account using our published account title and IBAN.
- Raast. Instant transfer through Pakistan’s Raast payment system.
- JazzCash. Mobile wallet transfer to our registered number.
- EasyPaisa. Mobile wallet transfer to our registered number.
- QR code. Scan our published QR code in your banking or wallet app.
- Cheque or demand draft. Payable to Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization and delivered or posted to our registered office.
- Cash. Accepted only at our registered office, against a numbered receipt issued at the time of payment. Never hand cash to anyone who cannot issue a PHWO receipt.
Always obtain payment details directly from phwo.org, or from info@phwo.org. If anyone solicits funds in our name using different account details, do not pay, and please tell us immediately.
Pledge, Verification, Receipt
Every donation passes through three steps.
- 1. Pledge. After making your payment, submit a pledge on our website or send us a message with the amount, the method used, the transaction or reference number, the date, and any restriction on how the funds should be used. A pledge is a notification, not a confirmed donation.
- 2. Verification. We check the pledge against our actual bank and wallet records. A donation is recognised only when the funds are confirmed as received. Unverified pledges are never entered as income, never counted in any total we publish, and never used to inflate a campaign figure.
- 3. Receipt. Once verified, the donation is entered in our books of accounts and a receipt is issued showing the donor (or “anonymous”), the amount, the date, the method and any restriction attached.
If a pledge cannot be matched to a payment, we will contact you rather than silently discarding it. If a payment arrives that we cannot match to any pledge, we hold it and make reasonable efforts to identify the donor before treating it as unrestricted.
Verification usually takes a few working days. Please keep your own transaction record until you receive your receipt. Descriptions of the transfer systems available in Pakistan are published by the State Bank of Pakistan.
Restricted and Unrestricted Donations
Restricted donations: if you name a cause, for example education, medical camps, digital skills training, tree plantation or emergency relief, then one hundred per cent of your donation is used for that cause and is recorded against that programme in our books.
Unrestricted donations: used wherever the need is greatest. This may include the legitimate running costs of the organisation, such as maintaining the registered office, records, training, monitoring and evaluation. These costs are real, and we meet them from unrestricted funds, membership fees and grants rather than from money given for a stated cause. We disclose them rather than concealing them, and set out the principle in full under where your money goes.
If a restricted purpose becomes impossible or is fully funded, we will contact you and either agree an alternative use or return the funds.
Zakat
PHWO accepts Zakat, which you can work out with our Zakat calculator, and handles it separately and strictly.
- Zakat is held in a separate account and is never mixed with general donations.
- Zakat is never used for administrative or running costs, salaries, office expenses or fundraising.
- Zakat is disbursed only to recipients eligible to receive it in accordance with Shariah.
- Zakat receipts and disbursements are recorded separately in our books so that their use can be shown on request.
Please state clearly at the time of your pledge that your donation is Zakat. Sadaqah is treated in the same way: it is applied in full to people in need and is never used for administrative or running costs, salaries, office expenses or fundraising. Fitrana and other charitable giving should also be identified so that they are applied correctly.
Anonymity and Recognition
You may donate anonymously. We will not publish any donor’s name, photograph or details without written consent. Donors who wish to be acknowledged may tell us how they would like to be named. We do not sell, rent or trade donor information.
Donations We Cannot Accept
PHWO will decline or return a donation where:
- the funds are, or are reasonably suspected to be, from an unlawful source;
- acceptance would require PHWO to act outside its constitution, or to compromise its non-political and non-sectarian character;
- the donation carries conditions of political endorsement, sectarian preference, or preferential treatment of particular individuals;
- the donor seeks control over beneficiary selection in a way that conflicts with our need-based criteria;
- acceptance would damage the reputation or independence of the organisation.
In-Kind Donations
We accept goods that our programmes can genuinely use, including books and stationery, computers and equipment, tools, sewing machines, in-date medicines, relief supplies and saplings. Please contact us before sending anything, so that we can confirm it is needed and can be stored. In-kind donations are recorded in our books in the same way as cash.
Use of Funds and Accountability
All funds are used solely for the aims and objectives set out in our constitution. No part of PHWO’s income or property may be applied for the personal benefit of any member. Proper books of accounts and statutory registers are maintained at our registered office.
Our first programmes are in preparation, so no annual report exists yet. Once our first programmes have run, we will publish an activity and financial report showing income by source and expenditure by programme, and report annually thereafter. See our Transparency and Accountability page.
Your Data
We collect only the information needed to verify your payment, issue your receipt, meet our legal and accounting obligations and, if you have agreed, keep you informed about the work you funded. Full details are in our Privacy Policy. You may unsubscribe from updates at any time.
Tax
Tax treatment of donations in Pakistan depends on the status of the organisation and on your own circumstances. PHWO does not currently claim any tax exemption status, and our receipts should not be treated as evidence of tax deductibility. Please consult your own tax adviser. The current rules for charitable donations are published by the Federal Board of Revenue. We will publish the position if it changes.
Mistaken or Duplicate Payments
Genuine errors happen. See our Refund and Correction Policy for how to request a correction.
