From Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn — often called Little Pakistan — to Jackson Heights, Jamaica and the suburbs of Long Island, New York’s Pakistani community is one of the largest in the United States. Many families here pay zakat and want part of it to reach Pakistan. This guide explains how to give Zakat or Sadaqah from New York to Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO).
Its volunteers and its single office are in Larkana, Sindh; in the US it has no office, no New York agent and nobody collecting cash in the city. Gifts go from your own bank, and families pay nothing for PHWO’s help.
Sending dollars from a US bank
Most US banks can send an international wire to a Pakistani bank account; some app-based services can too. Use only the account details shown on PHWO’s Donate page, after choosing whether your gift is Zakat, Sadaqah or a general donation. Your dollars are converted to rupees by your bank or its correspondent, and US wire fees can be significant, so ask about both the fee and the rate.
US tax and why PHWO says so plainly
PHWO is not a US 501(c)(3) organisation, so a donation to PHWO is not tax-deductible in the United States. We say this up front because many US donors plan their giving around deductions. If a deduction matters to you, you may prefer a US-registered charity for part of your giving; if you simply want to reach families in Pakistan directly, PHWO is one option among several.
Ramadan and Eid from New York
Pakistan is ten hours ahead of New York in winter and nine in summer. Many New York mosques announce a Zakat al-Fitr amount each Ramadan. If you send Fitrana to Pakistan, send it early so it can arrive before Eid prayer; international wires can take several business days. Our Fitrana guide has more detail.
What your gift supports
Zakat is held apart and given only to people eligible under Shariah — never for running costs. Sadaqah and general gifts support our programmes, including education, health, digital skills and emergency relief. Each request is checked first, and no outcome is promised. See where your money goes.

Want to give something other than money? Ways to give covers equipment, vehicles, waqf and legacies. If you know a family in Pakistan who needs help, they can request help online or ask for free legal aid, both free. You can check what PHWO publishes on transparency, and when you are ready, give through the Donate page.
Further reading and independent checks
These independent sources can help you check the facts for yourself. PHWO is not connected with them, and linking to them does not mean they endorse PHWO.

Frequently asked questions
Does PHWO have a New York office or fundraisers?
No. PHWO's only office is in Larkana, Sindh, and nobody collects money for it in New York.
Can I deduct this gift on my US tax return?
No. PHWO is a Pakistani organisation, not a US 501(c)(3), so the gift is not tax-deductible in the United States. A tax adviser can explain your options.
Can I pay by card or PayPal?
Not at present. From the US the route is a bank transfer to the details on the Donate page.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. A numbered receipt is emailed once the transfer is matched with the bank record. It is a PHWO receipt, not a US tax receipt.
Can I volunteer from New York?
Yes. Online volunteering and fundraising are open worldwide through the Volunteer page.
