Qambar-Shahdadkot was once part of Larkana District, and the ties between the two are still close. Many families have relatives on both sides of the boundary, students travel daily to Larkana’s colleges and medical university, and patients from Shahdadkot and Warah are referred to Chandka hospital. That closeness matters here, because the home of Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) is Larkana, less than an hour from Qambar town. For Qambar Shahdadkot families who want a free NGO in Qambar Shahdadkot close to home, PHWO is a neighbour that charges nothing and takes no side in politics, tribe or sect.
Even so, PHWO keeps no office in Qambar, Shahdadkot or anywhere else in the district. There is only the head office in Lahori Muhalla, Larkana. Most Qambar and Shahdadkot applicants use the website or message PHWO from your free PHWO account, often with a volunteer sitting beside them.
Volunteers from Larkana, working in Qambar-Shahdadkot
A large share of PHWO’s volunteers come from Larkana, and many of them have family or friends across the border in Qambar, Nasirabad and Shahdadkot. In practice that means a request from this district is often checked by someone who knows the area, speaks the same Sindhi or Brahui, and can reach you quickly by phone or motorbike.
We would like more volunteers from within Qambar-Shahdadkot itself. If you live in Warah, Miro Khan, Qubo Saeed Khan or Sijawal Junejo, your local knowledge would help families nearby. Join through the volunteer page. PHWO recognises every volunteer with a certificate together with an appreciation letter and an experience letter.
The district's 2023 census figures
The 2023 Census counted 1,514,869 people in Qambar Shahdadkot District, up from 1,338,035 in 2017, a growth rate of 2.1 percent a year. The district covers 5,475 square kilometres, from the rice fields near Larkana to the dry Kirthar hills on the Balochistan border. Just under 28 percent of people live in urban areas, and there are about 109 males for every 100 females.
The census report places the district in the 40 to 50 percent literacy group and in the band where 45 to 60 percent of Qambar’s school-age children are missing from class. Piped or bottled gas reaches a small minority of kitchens, somewhere between one in ten and one in five.
Rice, water and the 2022 floods
Rice is the main crop, grown with water from the canals of the Sukkur Barrage system. Hill torrents from the Kirthar can bring sudden flooding to western villages. In 2022 PDMA Sindh recorded 52 affected union councils and 206 kilometres of damaged road in Kamber-Shahdadkot, as its report spells the name, along with 18 bridges. Water stood for weeks in low areas around Shahdadkot and Qubo Saeed Khan, and many rice farmers lost a whole season.
Farm families here often borrow from rice mill owners or commission agents before harvest. After a lost crop, that debt can grow faster than it can be paid, and ration runs out. A Qambar household facing either problem is welcome to write to us about it.
Illness is the other big cause of hardship. Serious cases from the district usually end up at Chandka Medical College Hospital in Larkana, and the costs of travel, tests and medicines add up quickly for a family that has already sold its rice crop in advance. Bills for treatment can also be part of a request.
Making a request
Visit Request help. Choose your need: food ration, a loan to repay, treatment, fees for school or college, rent, losses from flood or fire, or a laptop or phone for education or work. Devices are among the most common requests PHWO receives, and students from Qambar and Shahdadkot who study in Larkana are welcome to ask.
Your request needs a clear live photo of the applicant. After a volunteer checks the details, PHWO decides if the need stands up and if we can meet it, and support is arranged only then. We never promise an amount or a date.
Free legal aid in Qambar Shahdadkot
Legal requests to PHWO are mostly about families: khula, maintenance, dowry, custody and guardianship. Cases from this district go to the family courts at the Qambar district headquarters or the courts at Shahdadkot and Warah. Tribal jirgas still decide many disputes here, but a jirga cannot lawfully decide a woman’s marriage or give a girl in compensation; that is a crime, and the police should be called on 15.
Tell us about your case through the free legal aid page, even without an FIR. Custody and hearings that are close are read first by volunteer advocates. Whether an advocate takes the file, and how it ends, cannot be promised. Qambar’s courts also host a District Legal Empowerment Committee, a second route to a free lawyer. Women can call the Sindh helpline 1094 for advice.
Giving from Qambar-Shahdadkot and abroad
Many families from this district have members working in Karachi, the Gulf and Europe. You can donate, sponsor a case for a household in your own village, or calculate your Zakat with the Zakat calculator. Zakat and Sadaqah routed through PHWO reach the needy in full.
Parents searching for a suitable match can register on the Rishta Desk, which is free and open to all religions. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff, and the family makes every decision. There is no guarantee of a match.
