Free help for families in Rawalpindi

A Welfare Contact for Pindi's Families, Reached Online

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Rawalpindi is a garrison city, a transport hub and, for many people, the cheaper side of the twin cities. Families move here from Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Potohar villages because rent is lower than in Islamabad and work is close by. When savings run out, people start searching for an NGO in Rawalpindi or a welfare trust in Rawalpindi that will treat them with respect.

Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) can be contacted from anywhere in the district, from Raja Bazaar to Gujar Khan and Kahuta. It is important to be clear: PHWO’s head office is in Larkana, Sindh, and there is no PHWO office or team in Rawalpindi. Everything happens online, and it is all free.

Monsoon, Nullah Leh and household losses

Nullah Leh cuts through the old city, and heavy monsoon rain turns it dangerous within hours. In August 2026 torrential rain flooded low-lying Rawalpindi, with water rising sharply at Katarian and Gawalmandi and warning sirens sounding for people living along the banks (Express Tribune). Families in Dhok Ratta, Dhok Elahi Bakhsh and similar mohallas can lose bedding, furniture and a month of stored flour in a single night.

If floodwater has damaged your home, you can list the losses through the PHWO request form. Photos of the damage and a live photo of you help volunteers check what happened. Requests are verified and weighed carefully; support is arranged only for needs that volunteers confirm and PHWO can take on, with no promise about the outcome or the timing.

Laptops, ration and debt: common requests from Pindi

  • Devices for study and work. Rawalpindi has many students at Arid Agriculture University, Fatima Jinnah Women University and private colleges along Murree Road, and many young people who freelance. A broken laptop can end a semester.
  • Ration. Van drivers, shop assistants in Saddar and construction labourers are often paid daily; one missed week hurts.
  • Debt. Families frequently owe money to relatives or a local committee after an illness or a wedding.

Explain your need in plain words. Say who lives in the house, who earns, and what exactly would change things.

Rawalpindi district facts

The 2023 Census recorded 6,118,911 people in Rawalpindi District, with 68.8% living in urban areas. Tehsils include Rawalpindi, Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Kotli Sattian, Murree and Taxila. Punjabi, including the Pothwari way of speaking common in the region, is the everyday language, alongside Urdu and Pashto in migrant neighbourhoods.

Free legal aid in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi has a Lahore High Court bench, a busy district judiciary and family courts that handle a steady flow of maintenance, khula and guardianship cases. Families from Murree and Kotli Sattian often have to travel down to the city for every hearing.

PHWO’s legal aid is free. Volunteer advocates read requests; urgent hearings and custody disputes are reviewed first. You can apply before any FIR has been registered. A lawyer is arranged only if a volunteer is available, so please keep your own court dates in mind and do not miss a hearing while you wait.

Government help points in Rawalpindi

  • Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi, the three public teaching hospitals of Rawalpindi Medical University.
  • Rescue 1122 for emergencies and flood rescue.
  • Police emergency 15; Punjab women’s helpline 1043.
  • The BISP office for Benazir Kafaalat enrolment.
  • Punjab Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal for provincial support schemes.
  • The district zakat committee, through the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Department.

Volunteering and fundraising from the twin cities

Rawalpindi already sends PHWO a good number of volunteers, and retired officers, teachers and lawyers here have skills that are in short supply. Advocates practising in Rawalpindi are the most useful volunteers of all. Fundraisers are needed too: people who can talk to their colleagues, a neighbourhood committee or their overseas cousins about supporting verified cases.

Join through the volunteer form. PHWO gives each volunteer a certificate along with letters of appreciation and experience.

Marriage proposals without a middleman

In Rawalpindi, as in much of Potohar, proposals still travel through relatives, neighbours and paid matchmakers, and the fees can be high. PHWO runs a free Rishta Desk for families of every religion, in Pakistan and abroad. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Parents and the young couple keep full control, and PHWO cannot guarantee that any proposal will lead anywhere. Families with sons or daughters working abroad sometimes find this easier, because the profile can be managed from a phone.

Whatever route you choose, please meet in safe, public places and involve elders you trust before any commitment. If someone you met through any platform asks you for money, stop contact and report it.

Donating from Rawalpindi or from abroad

Many Pindi families have relatives in the UK, particularly from Gujar Khan and the surrounding villages, and in the Gulf. Donations can be made in money or goods from Pakistan or overseas through the donate page, and every rupee of Zakat or Sadaqah goes to people in need. You may also sponsor one verified case.

Frequently asked questions

Our house near Nullah Leh flooded. Can we ask PHWO for help?

Yes. Use the request form, list what was damaged, and attach pictures of the damage plus a live photo of yourself. Volunteers check each case before anything is decided, and no result is promised.

Can families in Murree or Kotli Sattian use PHWO in winter when roads close?

Yes. Because everything runs through the website and a free PHWO account, a family in the hills can apply without coming down to the city, as long as they have a mobile signal.

Is PHWO a welfare trust based in Rawalpindi?

No. PHWO is based in Larkana, Sindh, and has no office or staff in Rawalpindi. You reach it online or through Message PHWO in a free PHWO account.

Can I get a free lawyer for a case at the Rawalpindi family court?

You can apply for free legal aid. Volunteer advocates review requests and custody or urgent cases are read first, but a lawyer depends on who is available.

I live in Gujar Khan. Can I volunteer remotely?

Yes. Many volunteer tasks can be done from home, and fundraising among the Gujar Khan diaspora is especially useful.
