Free help for families in Jhang

Jhang, Shorkot and Athara Hazari: Asking PHWO for Support

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Jhang sits where two great rivers join. The Jhelum flows into the Chenab near Trimmu Headworks, and for most of the year that water feeds wheat, cotton and fodder across the district. In a bad monsoon the same rivers turn on the villages beside them. After the 2025 floods, many households around Jhang, Shorkot and Athara Hazari started searching for an NGO in Jhang that would listen without asking them to travel or pay.

One such route is Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO). It runs on volunteers, and every service it offers costs nothing. PHWO keeps no office, camp or representative anywhere in Jhang district. Its single head office is in Larkana, Sindh, and families here reach it online, through Message PHWO in a free PHWO account, or by email to info@phwo.org .

Jhang district in numbers

The 2023 Census shows that Jhang District is home to 3,065,639 people, of whom only about 26% live in towns. That makes it one of the more rural districts of Faisalabad Division. Its tehsils are Jhang, Shorkot, Ahmadpur Sial and 18-Hazari. The census table on mother tongue records Punjabi as the first language of roughly 93% of residents; the Jhangochi way of speaking it is known well beyond the district. Most families depend on farming, livestock and daily wage labour.

When the river breaks its banks

In late August 2025 a very large flood wave passed through Trimmu. Aaj News reported that more than 200 villages in Jhang alone went under water, with standing crops destroyed, and that the authorities breached embankments near the old Rewas Bridge to ease pressure on the city (Aaj News). For a farming family, one season of lost crops can mean a year of borrowing.

If flood damage is behind your hardship, say so plainly in your request and add pictures of the house, the fields or the livestock you lost. For official relief and compensation surveys, stay in touch with the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the Punjab PDMA.

Financial help in Jhang: the three needs we hear most

  1. Ration, for families whose harvest or daily wages have gone.
  2. Debt, especially loans taken from a shopkeeper or arhti to cover seed, medicine or the cost of a daughter’s marriage.
  3. A laptop or phone for a young person studying at the University of Jhang or a local college, or trying to earn online from a village where jobs are scarce.

You can ask for any of these on the Request help page. PHWO needs a clear live photo of you and a short explanation of your need. Volunteers look into each case. Where the need turns out to be real and PHWO can meet it, support is arranged; there is no promise of an outcome and no date attached.

Free legal aid in Jhang for family disputes

Most people who ask PHWO for legal help have a family matter: a wife seeking maintenance, a mother worried about custody, a divorce that has become bitter, or a quarrel over a small share of land. In Jhang such cases go to the family courts and the district courts in the city and at tehsil level, with appeals to the Lahore High Court.

Through free legal aid you can explain your case online to PHWO’s volunteer advocates. You do not have to register an FIR before asking. Custody matters and any hearing that is close are read ahead of others. Whether a lawyer can take it on depends on who is free, so representation is never guaranteed.

Volunteer or donate from Jhang

Advocates practising in the Jhang courts are the volunteers PHWO most needs from this district, because so many local requests are family cases. Students and teachers can also help, and so can people from Jhang now working in Lahore, Faisalabad, the Gulf or Europe, who can raise funds for families back home. Sign up on the volunteer page. Your contribution is recognised in writing: first a certificate, then a thank-you note and a letter setting out what you did.

To give money or goods, visit Donate. Zakat or Sadaqah given here is spent wholly on families who qualify, and you can check your own Zakat with the Zakat calculator. If you would rather back one family whose need has been checked, choose Sponsor a case.

Rishta for families in Jhang

The Rishta Desk is free and welcomes families of every religion. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff, and it is always the two families who decide. PHWO does not promise that a match will be found.

Frequently asked questions

Our crops were washed away in the 2025 flood. Can we still apply?

Yes. Explain what you lost, attach photos, and send the request online. It is looked into like any other; PHWO cannot say in advance whether help will follow.

Does PHWO have a centre in Jhang or Shorkot?

No. There is nothing in Jhang district. The organisation works only from its Larkana office, so people here use Message PHWO in a free PHWO account, email info@phwo.org or the website.

I owe money to the arhti after a bad season. Is debt something PHWO considers?

Debt is one of the needs you can describe. Include what the loan was for and how much is left.

My case is in the family court in Jhang. Do I need an FIR to ask for legal aid?

No FIR is required. Fill in the legal aid form with your next hearing date so a volunteer advocate, if available, can see how urgent it is.

I am a lawyer in Jhang. How do I help?

Register on the volunteer page. Family cases from Jhang and nearby districts need local advocates more than anything else.
