Lodhran is overwhelmingly a district of villages. Between Multan and Bahawalpur, with the Sutlej along its southern side, its villages grow cotton, wheat and sugarcane, and its people speak mainly Saraiki. Towns are small and far apart, and hospitals and colleges are fewer than in the big cities nearby. For a family in trouble, searching for an NGO in Lodhran is often the first step towards help.
PHWO, meaning Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization, is a volunteer network that accepts requests nationwide and never asks for payment. PHWO has no office, camp or representative in Lodhran, Dunyapur or Kahror Pacca. Its only office is in Larkana, Sindh. People here reach PHWO online, through Message PHWO in a free PHWO account, or by email to info@phwo.org .
Lodhran in the 2023 Census
The census counted 1,928,299 people in Lodhran District, and only about 17% of them live in towns, a strikingly low share. Dunyapur tehsil is especially rural, with just 9% urban. The three tehsils are Lodhran, Dunyapur and Kahror Pacca. Saraiki is the mother tongue of about 74% of residents, Punjabi of about 15% and Urdu of about 6%.
Most households depend on farming, sharecropping, livestock and seasonal labour, including cotton picking and work in sugar mills. Some men also travel to Karachi or the Gulf for a few years, sending money home when they can, while their wives and parents manage the land and animals in their absence.
The pressures on village families
- Sharecropping: many families farm land they do not own and give a large part of the harvest to the landlord. A poor crop can leave them owing money.
- River belt: villages close to the Sutlej, especially on the Kahror Pacca side, face flooding and erosion in high-water years.
- Health: specialist treatment usually means travelling to Multan or Bahawalpur.
- Education: girls in remote villages often stop after primary school because the nearest middle or high school is far away.
Financial help in Lodhran
Sharecroppers, pickers and small farmers in Lodhran can send a request through Request help. Lodhran requests often mention a landlord’s advance, a fertiliser dealer’s bill, a child’s fees, rent in town, medicine, a student laptop or damage from the Sutlej. Include a clear live photo of yourself; explaining your need in Saraiki is fine.
Volunteers first confirm the details and then assess the need. Help is put together only when the need proves genuine and can be met; neither the result nor the timing is certain, and there is no fee.
Free legal aid in Lodhran
Lodhran’s cases start in the city’s own courts or at Dunyapur and Kahror Pacca, and any appeal is argued in Multan. Disputes between sharecroppers and landowners, inheritance claims and family matters make up much of the local caseload.
Sharecroppers and others can put their dispute before PHWO’s volunteer advocates via free legal aid, without having filed an FIR. Custody cases and hearings a few days away get read first. Representation is possible only when an advocate is free, so it is never certain.
Public services in Lodhran district
Among government services, District Headquarters Hospital Lodhran is the main hospital, with THQ hospitals in Dunyapur and Kahror Pacca. Rescue 1122 handles crashes on the Multan-Bahawalpur road, fires, and rescues along the Sutlej. Dial 15 for police; women facing abuse can ring 1043. Kafaalat is paid via each tehsil’s BISP office, government Zakat is managed by the District Zakat Committee Lodhran, and the District Bar Association Lodhran can recommend an advocate.
Girls' schooling and young people's skills
If your daughter wants to keep studying but the fees, transport or uniform are too much, you can ask for education support. A young man or woman who has finished school can also ask for a laptop to study or learn online work. PHWO’s programmes include education, digital skills and vocational training. Give the name of the school or college and what the student needs. Every request is verified and assessed.
Helping Lodhran: volunteer or donate
If you grew up in Lodhran and now live in Multan, Lahore, Karachi or the Gulf, the Donate page lets you send money or goods back to the district. Zakat and Sadaqah given there are spent wholly on eligible families. Calculate your Zakat with the Zakat calculator, or pick a single checked family through Sponsor a case.
PHWO is always shortest of advocates and of people who can raise money. A lawyer at the Lodhran, Dunyapur or Kahror Pacca courts could make a great difference to sharecropper families. Enrol on the volunteer page; volunteers are thanked with a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.
Applying from a village without internet
Many villages in Dunyapur and Kahror Pacca have weak mobile signal, and some families do not own a smartphone. That should not stop you. A son working in Lodhran city or Multan, a teacher, or a trusted neighbour can fill in the form for you, as long as they say who they are and use your own details and a live photo of you. Take the photo where there is good light, and describe your real situation without exaggeration. Keep one working phone number in the form, because a volunteer may call to confirm details. If the call is missed, the volunteer may try again; there is no need to pay anyone to follow up.
Rishta Desk
Lodhran families of any faith may use the Rishta Desk for free. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Choices are made at home, by the families, and a match is not assured.
