Naushahro Feroze sits in the heart of Sindh, between the Indus to the west and the desert edge to the east. Its towns, Moro, Kandiaro, Bhiria, Mehrabpur and the district headquarters itself, are linked by the National Highway and surrounded by banana, sugarcane, cotton and wheat farms. It is a district with better schooling than most of rural Sindh, yet in 2022 it suffered some of the worst displacement in the province. Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) offers help without charge as an NGO in Naushahro Feroze for families of every background.
There is no PHWO branch in the district, and none of our work there depends on an office. The organisation is based in Larkana and has no other premises. People in Naushahro Feroze fill in the online form, message PHWO from your free PHWO account, or go through a local volunteer.
Where 45,000 people sheltered in camps
The flood report issued by PDMA Sindh in mid-September 2022 lists 351 relief camps in Naushahro Feroze, far more than in any other district of Sindh on that date. Together they housed 45,146 people. The same report records 68 affected union councils and 727 kilometres of damaged road. Whole villages near Moro and Kandiaro moved onto embankments and school buildings while water stood in their fields.
Families who came home rebuilt with whatever they could borrow. Years later, many are still paying back shopkeepers and moneylenders. If your household carries such a debt, or cannot afford ration, you may describe it in a request to PHWO.
Naushahro Feroze by the numbers
The 2023 Census counted 1,777,082 people in the district, living on 2,946 square kilometres at a density of about 603 per square kilometre, one of the higher rural densities in Sindh. In 2017 there were 1,612,047. Close to 29 percent live in towns.
The provincial census report puts Naushahro Feroze in the 50 to 60 percent literacy bracket, with Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur and Shaheed Benazirabad, and in the group where between 30 and 45 percent of its 5 to 16 year olds miss out on school, better than the Sindh average of 46.29 percent. Sindhi is spoken in nearly every home.
Students who need a device
With literacy higher than much of the province, Naushahro Feroze has many young people finishing intermediate and degree studies. What holds some of them back is a laptop or smartphone for online classes, assignments or remote work. This is among the requests PHWO hears most often from all parts of Pakistan. If you study in Moro, Naushahro Feroze or Nawabshah, tell us your programme and how a device would change what you can do. The programmes page explains our wider work in education and digital skills.
Bananas, cane and summer heat
Much of the district’s farm work is done by labouring families who own no land. Banana orchards need constant watering and picking, cane harvesting is heavy seasonal work, and wheat and cotton bring short bursts of paid labour followed by long gaps. Women often work in the fields alongside men for lower pay. When a worker falls ill in the hottest months, which in central Sindh regularly pass 45 degrees, the family can lose its only income for weeks.
That gap is often filled with credit from the village shop, and the bill grows each month. A request to PHWO can cover food for the household, the cost of treatment, or part of what is owed. Say who you owe, how much, and since when. Remember that every application is checked, and support depends on what is found and on whether PHWO can meet the need.
Government schemes can help alongside this. Women in poor households may qualify for BISP Kafaalat payments, and children in those families for education stipends, so it is worth checking eligibility at the nearest BISP office or by calling 0800-26477.
Sending your request
- Open Request help.
- Choose ration, a loan, medicine, fees, rent, flood losses or a device.
- Add a live photo, and a short explanation in Sindhi or Urdu.
- Submit. A volunteer may phone to check what you wrote.
PHWO then looks at whether the need is confirmed and whether it can be met. When both are true, help is arranged. We do not promise money, a lawyer or any date, and applying costs nothing.
Free legal aid in Naushahro Feroze
Khula, maintenance, dowry articles and custody of children are the cases people most often bring to PHWO’s volunteer advocates. In Naushahro Feroze these go to the family courts at the district headquarters and the taluka courts, including those at Moro and Kandiaro.
Explain the matter on the free legal aid page; nothing has to be reported to police first. Put custody or an early hearing date at the top of your message, since those are read before others. We are honest that neither a lawyer nor a result is certain. Separately, Naushahro Feroze’s District Legal Empowerment Committee may appoint a lawyer for you at government expense. In an emergency, call 15; for women’s advice, 1094.
Helping from Naushahro Feroze
If you practise law in Moro or Naushahro Feroze, teach, or simply know your neighbourhood well, you can volunteer with PHWO. Volunteers receive a certificate and letters that thank them and record their experience.
Moro traders and families from the district now living in Karachi or overseas are welcome to donate, sponsor a case for a flood-hit family, or use the Zakat calculator. Not a rupee of the Zakat and Sadaqah sent through PHWO is kept back. For marriage, the free Rishta Desk is open to people of every religion in the district; each profile is checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff, and each family decides for itself.
