Bahrain may be small, but its Pakistani community is long-established, with roots in the police, construction, trade and health sectors. For those who want to donate to Pakistan from Bahrain to households they do not personally know, Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) provides a direct channel.
PHWO operates from one address only, in Larkana, Sindh. It has no office, collector or agent in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa or anywhere else on the islands. Families across Pakistan who reach out to it receive everything free.
What kind of need PHWO responds to
The most common appeals ask for basic food, relief from a crushing loan, or a laptop so a young person can keep studying or start earning online. Others involve surgery costs, unpaid fees, months of back rent, or homes damaged by fire, rain or earthquake. Applicants live in cities and villages across every province and region.
Every file includes a live photo of the applicant. Volunteers examine it and may phone the applicant. Help is arranged where the story checks out and it is possible to act; nothing is promised beforehand.
Working this way, without branches, keeps costs low and treats a village in Kurram the same as a street in Lahore. It also means applicants must explain themselves clearly, which is why supporting papers such as hospital slips or loan documents matter so much.
Your zakat, your sadaqah, handled separately
Zakat you send is placed in a dedicated fund. It goes only to people eligible under Islamic law, and not a single rupee of it pays for administration. Sadaqah has its own separate fund and is handed on fully to people in hardship. Browse PHWO’s areas of work on Programmes, or, if you would like to focus on one checked household, use Sponsor a case.
From Manama to Larkana: making the transfer
PHWO does not run a card checkout and is not on PayPal. These are the routes shown on the Donate page:
- International wire transfer from your Bahraini bank. Licensed exchange companies that deposit into Pakistani bank accounts serve the same purpose.
- Transfers within Pakistan by ordinary bank transfer to the UBL account, where you or a family member holds a Pakistani bank account.
- Donated goods handed in at the Larkana office.
Funds are received in rupees. Bahraini dinars are converted by whoever sends your money, so ask for their rate and charges before confirming. Copy PHWO’s account details from the donate page, not from social media posts or forwarded messages. After paying, complete the short confirmation form there; your gift is matched to the bank record and a numbered receipt is emailed.
Bahrain is two hours behind Pakistan. A message sent from your PHWO account at the start of your day arrives at around lunchtime in Larkana.
Planning zakat and fitrana
Zakat is due once your wealth has stayed above nisab for a full lunar year. Plenty of donors in Bahrain pay in Ramadan; others keep a different fixed date. Using the Zakat calculator, add up cash, bank balances, gold, silver and trade stock. Include any savings you hold in Pakistan, and convert everything into one currency. For fitrana, which must reach people before Eid prayer, send early to allow for bank holidays in both countries.
Staying safe when you donate to Pakistan from Bahrain
Bahrain regulates fundraising from the public. PHWO does not raise funds there and holds no Bahraini licence. Paying from your personal account to a Pakistani organisation is a private matter between you and your bank; your bank can advise on any requirements.
Fake charity messages are common everywhere. Think twice if you are asked to send money to a person’s wallet, if the sender cannot give a physical address, or if the photos look copied from elsewhere. The organisation’s one address is in Lahori Muhalla, Larkana (House 704/C), and its registration with Pakistan’s social welfare authorities is in process.
Fundraising for PHWO from Bahrain
PHWO welcomes fundraisers overseas. You can talk about its work in your community association, among colleagues, or in family WhatsApp groups, and share the donate page so each person gives directly. Please do not collect or carry anyone else’s money. Some supporters print a small card with the website address and the contact page to hand out at community gatherings, which lets people check PHWO themselves before deciding. Others simply post a reminder in Ramadan and on the first of each Islamic month. Whatever you do, keep it honest: describe what PHWO does, avoid exaggerated claims, and never promise anyone that a particular family will be helped by a particular date. Legal aid is provided by advocates practising in Pakistan, so that work is done from inside the country. Register through Volunteer; volunteers receive a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.
When the person in need is your own relative
Sometimes a donor realises a cousin or neighbour back home is struggling. Rather than sending money through PHWO for them, it is usually simpler to help them directly, or to encourage them to apply through Request help so their situation can be assessed like anyone else’s. If the problem is legal, such as unpaid maintenance or a custody dispute, Free legal aid puts them in touch with a volunteer advocate. Unmarried young people and their parents can also use the free Rishta Desk, where each profile is checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff, families take the decisions, and no match is promised.
