Leeds has a large and growing Pakistani-heritage community, with mosques and community centres in areas such as Harehills, Beeston and Chapeltown. If you live in Leeds and want your zakat or Sadaqah to reach families in Pakistan, this guide explains how to give to Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO), and what to expect afterwards.
PHWO is a Pakistani, volunteer-led organisation. Its only office is in Larkana, Sindh, and it has no representative in Leeds or West Yorkshire. You give from your own bank account, and the families PHWO helps receive its services free.
A short checklist before giving
- Give through the organisation’s own website, not a forwarded link.
- Never pay into a personal account belonging to a collector or volunteer.
- Read what the organisation publishes about how gifts are used.
- Keep your bank confirmation until the receipt arrives.
For PHWO, the official page is phwo.org/donate, and the transparency page sets out its registration status, which is in process under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies Ordinance 1961.
Sending your gift from Leeds
Pick Zakat, Sadaqah or a general donation on the Donate page, then use your bank’s international payment option with the account details shown there. Pounds are converted to rupees by your bank, and the rate and charges vary, so check them first.
Giving online, giving regularly
Some donors prefer to spread their giving through the year rather than pay everything in Ramadan. You can send Sadaqah whenever you wish, and Zakat at any point in your zakat year. Our guide to giving Sadaqah online to Pakistan covers regular giving and the difference between Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah.
Your skills count too
Leeds is home to many young professionals and students. If you can write, design, teach, code or advise, you can volunteer online with PHWO from anywhere in the world. You can also offer equipment such as laptops for the Free Online Classes through Ways to give.

Want to give something other than money? Ways to give covers equipment, vehicles, waqf and legacies. If you know a family in Pakistan who needs help, they can request help online or ask for free legal aid, both free. You can check what PHWO publishes on transparency, and when you are ready, give through the Donate page.
Further reading and independent checks
These independent sources can help you check the facts for yourself. PHWO is not connected with them, and linking to them does not mean they endorse PHWO.
