Free help for families in Chakwal

An NGO in Chakwal for Rain-Fed Villages, Soldier Families and Students

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Chakwal is a land of dry hills, rain-fed wheat and groundnut, and families who have served in the army for generations. Its villages are neat and proud, but that pride can make it hard to ask for help. When money runs short because the rains failed, a pension is too small or a son abroad lost his job, people quietly begin searching for an NGO in Chakwal they can trust.

PHWO, short for Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization, keeps out of politics, works through volunteers in every province and takes no payment from anyone it helps. It has no office, camp or worker in Chakwal, Talagang, Kallar Kahar, Lawa or Choa Saidan Shah. The only office is in Larkana, Sindh. From Chakwal, people apply online, call.

Chakwal in the 2023 Census

Its count put 1,734,854 people in Chakwal District, about a quarter (25%) of them urban. Its tables list five tehsils: Chakwal, Choa Saidan Shah, Kallar Kahar, Lawa and Talagang. One unusual detail: women (870,736) slightly outnumber men (864,029), which is rare in Punjab; one likely reason is that many men from the district live and work elsewhere.

Families here mostly depend on rain-fed farming, livestock, army salaries and pensions, and remittances from the Gulf. The Salt Range around Choa Saidan Shah and Kallar Kahar has cement works and mines that give some local jobs.

Why hardship in Chakwal is often hidden

Most of Chakwal lies on the Potohar plateau, where there are no big canals and crops live or die by the monsoon. In a dry spell, drinking water itself can become a daily worry for hill villages. When the men of a household are away, an elderly grandmother may be left raising grandchildren on a small pension. Illness is often the tipping point: a heart operation or cancer treatment in Rawalpindi can swallow years of savings.

If this sounds like your family, you are not asking for charity in a shameful sense. You are asking for what welfare exists to do.

Financial help in Chakwal: the request, step by step

  1. Open the Request help page.
  2. Pick what fits your situation, whether groceries, a medical bill, fees, the rent, a loan, a laptop or something lost to disaster.
  3. Add a clear live photo of yourself, and tell your story in your own words.
  4. Keep your phone reachable. A volunteer may call to check details.

Each request is verified and assessed. Help is arranged where a verified need can be met. PHWO cannot promise a result or give a time frame, and it never charges for applying.

Free legal aid in Chakwal and Talagang

Chakwal city hosts the sessions court; tehsil towns like Talagang and Choa Saidan Shah have civil and family judges, and appeals are argued at the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench. Many disputes here involve inherited land shared among relatives, some of them overseas, as well as maintenance and custody in family courts.

Use the free legal aid page to explain your matter. You do not have to file an FIR first. Custody files and dates coming up soon are put on top of the pile. Representation depends entirely on an advocate being free, which cannot be promised.

Services close to home in Chakwal district

Before or alongside any request to PHWO, Chakwal residents can lean on the state’s own services. District Headquarters Hospital Chakwal is the main public hospital, with tehsil hospitals such as the one at Talagang for nearer care. On the motorway near Kallar Kahar and on the Chakwal-Jhelum road, Rescue 1122 answers crashes and fires. Ring 15 to reach the police, and women facing violence can use the 1043 helpline. Families on the Kafaalat list collect payments through their tehsil’s BISP office, and the District Zakat Committee Chakwal handles government Zakat locally. If you need a lawyer and do not know where to start, the District Bar Association Chakwal can point you in the right direction.

Retired soldiers, teachers and overseas workers: how to help

Chakwal has a large number of retired servicemen and teachers with time, discipline and respect in their villages. They make excellent volunteers, helping neighbours fill in a request or raising funds. Advocates and anyone with a knack for raising funds, in Chakwal or among its many overseas families, are the most wanted of all. Put your name down on the volunteer page and your service is recognised with a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.

If you would rather give, visit Donate. Cash and goods are welcome from inside the country or from abroad, and Zakat and Sadaqah are spent in their entirety on eligible people. The Zakat calculator will work out what is due, and Sponsor a case connects you to one verified family. Organisations can look at the Partner page.

Students from Chakwal and Talagang

Chakwal has a strong tradition of schooling, and many young people go on to colleges in the city, to the University of Chakwal or to universities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. On a single pension, one semester’s dues or hostel rent can decide whether a Chakwal student graduates or quits. The request form accepts student applications for fees or a laptop. Write down your institution, your programme, the amount due and how a laptop would be used, whether for coursework or for freelance work from home. PHWO’s programmes page also describes its education and digital skills work.

Rishta Desk for Chakwal

The Rishta Desk is free for families of any faith. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Families take every decision themselves, and a match is never guaranteed.
