Kasur lives beside the border and beside the Sutlej. It is the town of Baba Bulleh Shah’s shrine, of leather work and of the famous falooda, but it is also a district where one bad flood can undo years of saving. When people search for an NGO in Kasur, they usually want someone who will hear their problem without making them travel to Lahore or pay a fee first.
One organisation Kasur families can write to is Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO), a volunteer group that accepts cases from all four provinces and asks nothing in return. To be clear from the start: PHWO has no office, desk or agent in Kasur district. Its only head office is in Larkana, Sindh. Families in Kasur city, Pattoki, Chunian and Kot Radha Kishan contact it through the website, through Message PHWO in a free PHWO account, or by email to info@phwo.org .
Kasur district at a glance
According to the 2023 Census, 4,084,286 people live in Kasur District, up from 3,454,881 in 2017. Roughly 30% are town dwellers, and everyone else lives in the villages of four tehsils: Kasur, Chunian, Pattoki and Kot Radha Kishan. Punjabi is the mother tongue of about 84% of residents, and one detail stands out in the census language table: roughly 11.5% of the district speak Mewati, a far larger share than in most of Punjab.
The economy mixes farming along the river, tanneries and shoe-making in the city, nurseries and poultry near Pattoki, and daily-wage work in Lahore’s industrial belt, which many men from the district commute to. Border villages east of the city, close to Ganda Singh Wala, have fewer jobs and longer journeys to any hospital, so a single illness or a lost crop hits them harder.
The Sutlej in August 2025
In late August 2025 the Sutlej rose to its highest level at Kasur since 1955, according to Aaj News (Aaj News). Dawn reported that 72 villages in Kasur district had gone under water by 29 August (Dawn). Villages in the riverine belt lost standing rice and fodder, and many families moved their cattle to the embankments for weeks.
If the flood is part of why you are struggling, mention it in your request and send photographs of the damage. Survey teams for state compensation work through the Kasur DC office and PDMA Punjab, so make sure your name is on their list too.
What a family in Kasur can ask PHWO for
- Ration when wages or a harvest have stopped.
- Medical costs for tests, medicine or an operation.
- School or college fees, and a laptop for a student who needs one.
- Rent or debt, for example a loan taken to rebuild after the water went down.
- Losses from the flood: house, livestock or tools of a trade.
Open the Request help form and describe the need honestly. You will be asked for a live photo of yourself and to explain your situation in your own words. A volunteer checks what you have sent, then weighs it. Help is arranged only where a verified need can be met, and PHWO does not promise any particular result.
Free legal aid in Kasur
Kasur’s district courts, and the civil and family courts at tehsil level in Pattoki and Chunian, hear most local disputes; appeals go to the Lahore High Court. The people who write to PHWO about legal trouble usually face a maintenance claim, a custody fight, a land quarrel inside the family or a false complaint.
You can describe your matter on the free legal aid page. An FIR is not needed before you ask. Where a child’s custody is at stake, or a Kasur hearing is just days off, the advocates open that file ahead of the queue. Taking on your case depends on a volunteer lawyer having room for it, and nobody can promise that in advance.

Volunteering and giving from Kasur
Kasur is close enough to Lahore that many of its young people study or work there. If you are a lawyer, a law student near to finishing, a teacher or simply someone good at raising money among friends, join through the volunteer page. Of all volunteers, practising advocates and people able to raise funds, in Kasur or overseas, are in shortest supply. Each volunteer receives a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.
Gifts of cash or goods, whether sent from Kasur or from abroad, go through the Donate page. Every rupee of Zakat and Sadaqah is passed on to those who qualify. If you are unsure of your Zakat, the Zakat calculator does the sum; to stand behind one checked Kasur household, pick Sponsor a case.
Rishta Desk for Kasur families
Parents in Kasur looking for a suitable match can use the Rishta Desk for free, whatever their faith. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Parents and the young people themselves make the choices, and no match is assured.
