Free help for families in Mandi Bahauddin

An NGO in Mandi Bahauddin for Families at Home and Relatives Abroad

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Mandi Bahauddin sits in the doab between the Jhelum and the Chenab, a flat, fertile district of wheat, rice and sugarcane. It is also a district where many streets have someone working in Europe or the Gulf, and new houses built with that money stand beside old mud ones. Behind the fine gates, though, there are families who were left behind: widows, the elderly, and households whose migrant son never managed to send money. They too look for an NGO in Mandi Bahauddin.

PHWO (Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization) is staffed by volunteers, hears from families in all provinces, and charges them nothing at all. PHWO has no office, camp or local worker in Mandi Bahauddin, Phalia or Malakwal. The only office is in Larkana, Sindh; people from this district reach PHWO online or through Message PHWO in a free PHWO account.

Mandi Bahauddin in figures

The 2023 Census found 1,829,486 people in Mandi Bahauddin District. Only about 19% live in towns, and the urban population barely grew between 2017 and 2023 (around 1% a year), while the villages grew faster. The three tehsils are Mandi Bahauddin, Phalia and Malakwal. Punjabi is the mother tongue of about 93% of residents.

Farming, livestock and remittances are the backbone of local income. Malakwal grew up around its railway junction, and Phalia is a busy market town serving the villages in between. Farm labourers, small shopkeepers and drivers make up a large part of the working population, and their earnings often depend on the harvest.

When the rivers rise

The district is bordered by two rivers. In the Chenab flood of late August 2025, Dawn reported 35 villages submerged in Mandi Bahauddin (Dawn). Families in low-lying villages lost rice, fodder and sometimes cattle, and some had to shelter with relatives on higher ground until the water drained away.

If your household suffered in the flood, mention it in your request with photos. Government loss surveys in the district are run from the DC office in Mandi Bahauddin with PDMA Punjab, so register your damage there as well.

The cost of going abroad

In Mandi Bahauddin, stories of young men leaving for Europe are part of daily conversation. Some succeed. Others are caught by agents who take large sums, leave families in debt, or send young people on dangerous journeys. A family that sold land or borrowed heavily for a son’s visa, and then saw the plan fail, can end up in real hardship.

If that is your situation, you can explain it honestly in a request for help with debt or household needs. Legal questions about fraud by an agent can be described on the legal aid page.

Financial help in Mandi Bahauddin

The Request help form lets a Mandi Bahauddin household set out what has gone wrong: an empty kitchen, a hospital bill, fees, overdue rent, a loan hanging over the family, a student without a laptop, or a house and crop lost to the river. With the form, add a live photo of yourself and explain your situation in your own words.

A volunteer first checks the facts and then weighs the need. If it is real and can be met, support is organised. Nobody can tell you in advance what the outcome will be or how long it takes, and there is no charge at any point.

Free legal aid in Mandi Bahauddin

The district and sessions courts are in Mandi Bahauddin city, with civil and family courts in Phalia and Malakwal, and appeals to the Lahore High Court. Inheritance of land where some heirs live abroad, maintenance and custody, and cheating by visa agents are among the matters people here most need help with.

Write to PHWO’s volunteer advocates through the free legal aid page. No FIR is needed to ask. If the matter concerns children’s custody, or your Phalia or Malakwal hearing is near, it is taken up first. A lawyer can only take your case if one is available; representation is not guaranteed.

Public services in the district

Government services in the district include District Headquarters Hospital Mandi Bahauddin and the THQ hospitals at Phalia and Malakwal. Rescue 1122 answers crashes on the Sargodha road, fires and river emergencies. Police are on 15, and the women’s helpline is 1043. Kafaalat cash comes through each tehsil’s BISP office. The District Zakat Committee Mandi Bahauddin runs the government Zakat system locally, and the District Bar Association Mandi Bahauddin can guide you towards a lawyer.

Overseas Mandiwals: giving back safely

Mandiwals in Greece, Italy, Spain, Britain or the Gulf often want to help people back home but worry about where the money ends up. The Donate page takes money or goods directly, and Zakat or Sadaqah sent that way is handed on in full to families who qualify. Unsure how much Zakat you owe on your savings abroad? The Zakat calculator will help. And if you would like your gift tied to one household whose circumstances were checked, choose Sponsor a case.

Time matters as much as money. Fundraisers among the Pakistani community overseas, and advocates practising in Pakistan, are the two kinds of volunteer PHWO is shortest of. Enrol on the volunteer page; your effort is recognised with a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.

Rishta Desk

Whether your family is in Mandi Bahauddin or abroad, the Rishta Desk costs nothing and welcomes all religions. Each profile is checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Parents and young people choose for themselves, and a match cannot be promised.
