Free help for families in Okara

Help from an NGO in Okara, Depalpur and Renala Khurd Without Leaving Home

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Okara is a farming district first. Potatoes, maize, milk and cattle keep most households going, and the military farms and the old Renala Khurd hydel station are part of local memory. Yet farm earnings swing hard with the weather, and after a failed season many households begin hunting for an NGO in Okara that will actually answer.

One place Okara families can turn is PHWO, the Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization. It is voluntary, non-political and non-sectarian, and none of its services cost anything. Please know that PHWO keeps no office or representative in Okara, Depalpur or Renala Khurd. Its one registered address is in Larkana, Sindh, and people from this district reach it online, by call.

Census picture of Okara

The 2023 Census counted 3,515,490 residents in Okara District. About a third (33.8%) are urban, living mostly in Okara city, Depalpur, Renala Khurd and smaller mandi towns such as Haveli Lakha and Basirpur. Depalpur is the largest tehsil, with more than 1.59 million people. Punjabi is the mother tongue of around 94% of the district.

Because land holdings are small and families large, many young men work as labourers, drivers or security guards in Lahore and Faisalabad, while women often earn from livestock at home. When a buffalo dies or a potato price collapses, the whole household feels it.

Flood damage along the Sutlej belt

The southern edge of the district runs along the Sutlej. Dawn reported that by 29 August 2025, 86 villages in Okara had been submerged by the river (Dawn), and news reports also described protective dykes near Okara giving way. Villages near Depalpur and Haveli Lakha lost crops, fodder and animals.

If your family was affected, say so in your request and include pictures. Official surveys and compensation come through the Deputy Commissioner and PDMA Punjab, so register with them as well.

How to ask PHWO for financial help in Okara

  1. Open Request help and tick the need that fits: food for the house, a hospital bill, fees, rent, a loan, a study laptop, or what the flood took.
  2. Add a live photo of yourself, and tell the story in your own words.
  3. Keep your phone on. Volunteers may call to check details.

Every request is verified and then assessed. Only where a real need can be met does support follow. There is no guarantee of support and no fixed time.

Legal trouble? Free legal aid in Okara

Okara has district and sessions courts in the city, plus civil and family courts in Depalpur and Renala Khurd; appeals from the district go to the Lahore High Court. Land partition among brothers, water-turn disputes, dowry recovery, maintenance and custody are common reasons people look for a lawyer here.

The free legal aid service lets you write to PHWO’s volunteer advocates. You do not need an FIR to ask. Files about children’s custody, or with a Depalpur or Okara hearing close at hand, get read before the rest. A lawyer is not guaranteed; it depends on who is available.

Give, sponsor or volunteer from Okara

People from Okara working in the Gulf, in Lahore or in Europe often want to help families back home. Cash or goods can be sent through Donate, and Zakat and Sadaqah are handed on undiminished to families who qualify. The Zakat calculator settles what you owe this year, while Sponsor a case pairs you with one Okara-area household whose need is confirmed.

If you would rather give time, the volunteer page is open to anyone. Advocates practising in Okara, Depalpur or Renala are especially valuable, as are fundraisers. Volunteers are thanked with a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.

Students, widows and daily-wage workers

Three groups write to welfare organisations from districts like Okara more than others. The first is students: a boy at a Renala college or a girl at the University of Okara who cannot pay the semester fee or needs a laptop for online classes and freelancing. The second is widows and divorced women raising children alone, who often have no land in their own name. The third is men paid by the day at a brick kiln, a mandi or a construction site, who lose everything when they fall sick.

If you belong to one of these groups, say so plainly in your request and attach whatever papers you have: a fee challan, a death certificate, a doctor’s slip. It makes checking quicker. PHWO’s programmes page explains the eight areas it works in, from education and digital skills to women’s empowerment and emergency relief.

Rishta for Okara families

The Rishta Desk is free and open to every faith. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. Families decide for themselves, and nothing about a match is guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit PHWO somewhere in Okara city?

Our buffalo died and we borrowed money for fodder. Can we ask for debt help?

Yes. A loan like that can be part of your request. Explain who you owe, how much is left and why the loan was taken.

We live near Haveli Lakha and our land flooded in 2025. What should we send?

Pictures of the flooded land and house, a live photo of yourself and a short explanation in your own words. The request will be verified and assessed; the outcome cannot be promised.

I am an advocate at the Depalpur courts. Can I volunteer?

Please do. Register on the volunteer page; lawyers in Pakistan are the volunteers PHWO needs most.

Does it cost anything to apply?

Nothing. Every PHWO service is free, and nobody may ask you for a fee in PHWO's name.
