Asking an NGO in Chiniot for Help: A Plain Guide for Bhawana and Lalian Too

All PHWO services are free. Nobody may ask you for money in PHWO’s name. Β· Message PHWO Β· info@phwo.org

Chiniot is known across Pakistan for its carved wooden furniture, its brass-studded doors and the grand Umar Hayat Mahal. Many of the country’s big trading families trace their roots to the town. But the craftsmen who carve that wood, and the farmers on the Chenab bank, often earn very little. For them, finding an NGO in Chiniot that listens without asking for money can matter a great deal.

Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) is a volunteer outfit taking cases from right across the country, all free of charge. It says one thing plainly: you will not find a PHWO office, camp or agent in Chiniot district. The only office is in Larkana, Sindh. People in Chiniot, Bhawana and Lalian use the website or Message PHWO in a free PHWO account instead.

Who lives in Chiniot district

Chiniot became a separate district in 2009, carved out of Jhang. The 2023 Census puts its population at 1,563,024. Just under a third of people (31.5%) live in towns; Chiniot city itself holds about half of the urban population, while Bhawana tehsil is almost entirely rural, with only about 9% urban. Punjabi is the mother tongue of roughly 95% of residents.

Work falls into three rough groups: furniture workshops and sawmills in the city, farming and livestock in the villages, and labour that travels daily to Faisalabad, less than an hour away. The hills around Chiniot and Rajoa are also quarried for stone.

Rising water in 2025

The Chenab passes right beside Chiniot city. During the late-August 2025 flood, Dawn counted 48 submerged villages in the district (Dawn), and Aaj News reported around 400 people rescued and the Sargodha-Jhang road under water (Aaj News). Villages in Lalian and Bhawana lost crops and fodder.

If you were affected, describe your loss in the request and add pictures. Government compensation lists are drawn up through the Chiniot DC and PDMA Punjab, so get registered there as well.

What craftsmen and farmers in Chiniot can request

Through Request help, anyone in the district can ask for:

  • ration for the household;
  • money for medical treatment, including injuries from workshop machines;
  • school, college or university fees;
  • help with rent or a debt;
  • a laptop for study or online work;
  • tools or stock lost in a disaster.

You will need a live photo of yourself. Your details are checked by a volunteer and then weighed. Help is arranged only when a verified need can be met; PHWO promises neither a result nor a date.

Free legal aid in Chiniot

Chiniot’s own district courts, and the tehsil benches at Bhawana and Lalian, hear local disputes; appeals travel to the Lahore High Court. Family law matters, inheritance among siblings and small land disputes are the most frequent.

Write your problem on the free legal aid page. Nobody will ask you for an FIR first. Custody disputes, and anyone whose date in the Chiniot court is near, come first. Representation hangs on a volunteer lawyer being free to take it, so it cannot be counted on.

Chiniot's business families can do a lot of good

People from Chiniot run businesses in Faisalabad, Lahore, Karachi and abroad. If you are one of them, the Donate page takes cash or goods for families in the district you came from. Not a paisa of Zakat or Sadaqah is kept back. Your yearly Zakat can be worked out with the Zakat calculator, and Sponsor a case links you to a single Chinioti household that has been checked. Companies can explore a formal link on the Partner page.

Volunteers are just as important. Chiniot advocates, and anyone who can gather donations at home or overseas, top the wish list. Sign up on the volunteer page; you receive a certificate, a letter of appreciation and an experience letter.

A few tips before you apply from Chiniot

Most delays come from missing details rather than from the need itself. Before you fill in the form, gather the papers that prove what you are describing: a fee voucher from the school, a prescription or test report from DHQ Chiniot, a rent agreement or a written note from the person you owe. Take your photo in good light, explain your need in Punjabi or Urdu, and say which village or mohalla you live in.

Use one phone number you will keep answering, because volunteers may call to confirm facts. Never hand money to someone promising to hurry your file along or calling himself PHWO’s man in Chiniot; nobody holds that role. Tell PHWO through the Contact page if anyone tries it.

Rishta Desk

Families in Chiniot searching for a match can use the Rishta Desk. It costs nothing and welcomes all faiths. Profiles are checked with a live selfie and reviewed by PHWO staff. The families make all decisions, and a match cannot be promised.

Frequently asked questions

I carve furniture in a Chiniot workshop and hurt my hand. Can PHWO help pay for treatment?

You can ask. Choose medical help on the request form and attach the doctor's papers. The request is verified and assessed; support is not guaranteed.

Is there a PHWO centre in Chiniot, Bhawana or Lalian?

No. PHWO works only from its Larkana office. Reach it by messaging PHWO from a free PHWO account, at info@phwo.org or through the website.

Our village near Rajoa was flooded. Is it too late to ask?

No. Describe what happened and send photos. Every request goes through the same checks.

I am a businessman from Chiniot living abroad. How can I help my district?

Donate from abroad, sponsor a verified case, or volunteer as a fundraiser among other Chinioti families overseas.

My sister's custody case is in the Chiniot family court. Is an FIR needed?

No FIR is needed. Fill in the legal aid form with the next hearing date so volunteers can see how urgent it is.
