Khuzdar is the largest town of the Jhalawan region, a stopping point on the long N-25 highway between Karachi and Quetta, surrounded by dry hills, seasonal rivers and scattered villages. A lot of the people typing NGO in Khuzdar into a phone live hours from the district headquarters, in places such as Wadh, Nal, Zehri, Karakh or Ornach, where a bus ride alone can cost a day’s wage.
Peace and Humanity Welfare Organization (PHWO) is one place such families can turn. Please understand one thing clearly first: PHWO has no office, centre or worker in Khuzdar. The organisation keeps just one office, in Larkana, Sindh, and everything for Balochistan is handled online, sometimes with help from a volunteer. Nothing costs money. Each application is looked at carefully, and support is arranged when the need is confirmed and it is possible to meet it; no one is promised an outcome.
Khuzdar District by the numbers
According to the 2023 Census, Khuzdar District had 997,214 people spread over roughly 35,380 square kilometres, placing it among the largest districts in the country by area (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Table 1). About 37 percent of residents were counted as urban, and the average household had around six members. Brahui is the language of most homes in Jhalawan, with Balochi also widely spoken.
Those figures explain a lot. Big families, long distances and few salaried jobs mean that one illness or one failed season can knock a household off balance.
What pushes Khuzdar households into hardship
Most rural families rely on livestock, small orchards, rain-fed farming and labour on the highway, in mines or in Karachi. When the rains fail, herds shrink and crops wither. When they come too hard, as in the monsoon of 2022, torrents sweep away mud houses, fields and road links; that year’s floods hit almost every district of Balochistan (ReliefWeb: Pakistan floods 2022).
Travel is another quiet cost. A mother taking a child for treatment, or a litigant going to a hearing, may have to hire a vehicle and pay for food on the way. Small loans taken for these trips pile up. Road accidents on the N-25 also leave families without an earning member.
Nationally, PHWO is most frequently asked for monthly ration, for paying off debt, and for a laptop or a phone so that a young person can study or find work. All three fit Khuzdar closely: a student at the engineering university in Khuzdar, or a youth hoping for freelance income rather than a move to Karachi, may need nothing more than a working device.
How an NGO in Khuzdar can reach you without an office
Because PHWO works remotely, the steps are the same whether you live near the Khuzdar bazaar or in a village in Moola:
- Open Request help on any phone, or message PHWO from your free PHWO account.
- Explain your situation honestly: who lives in the house, what income there is, and what exactly you need.
- Add a live photo of yourself, plus any bills, loan papers or hospital slips you have.
- A volunteer may call to confirm the details. Be patient if the signal is weak; you can reply later.
You may explain your situation in Brahui or Balochi. Volunteers who understand those languages help read such requests. Never pay anyone who says they can speed up your file: every PHWO service is free, and nobody is allowed to collect money in its name.
Family cases and free legal advice for Jhalawan
The district and sessions courts at Khuzdar hear civil, criminal and family matters for the district. Most people who contact PHWO’s Free legal aid service have family disputes: khula, dower, maintenance for children, or custody after a separation. Volunteer advocates study the papers and explain your options. You do not need an FIR in order to ask for advice. Where children are involved, or a hearing is only days away, the file is taken up ahead of others. Having an advocate stand beside you at the hearing is possible in some cases, never certain.
For appeals, the High Court of Balochistan sits in Quetta. The district bar association in Khuzdar can also point a poor litigant towards counsel.
